Hello from the California History Section in the California State Library!

We wanted to let you know about our upcoming event in our free virtual speaker series:

    • Wednesday, June 25, 4:00-5:00PM: A Place at the Nayarit: How a Mexican Restaurant in Los Angeles Nourished Its Community - Join us in conversation with author and historian Natalia Molina as she shares the story behind her heartfelt book, A Place at the Nayarit: How a Mexican Restaurant Nourished a Community, tracing how her grandmother built more than just a restaurant in Echo Park in 1951 - she built a community hub welcoming to immigrants, women, members of the LGBTQ community, and Hollywood stars alike.

On top of graphic reads "A Place at the Nayarit How a Mexican Restaurant Nourished a Community." Below this in the center are three photographs: one of the book cover, one of a woman standing outside a building, and one of a headshot of that same woman. Below this the text reads: Join author and historian Natalia Molina as she shares the story behind A Place at the Nayarit: How a Mexican Restaurant Nourished a Community. This heartfelt book traces how Molina's grandmother, Doña Natalia Barraza, built more than just a restaurant in Echo Park in 1951 - she created a vital community hub where immigrants and locals alike found connection, support, and a sense of belonging.
