Final call - Invitation to Participate in Survey on AI-Generated Article Requests in Academic Libraries

  • 1.  Final call - Invitation to Participate in Survey on AI-Generated Article Requests in Academic Libraries

    Posted Sep 16, 2025 03:29 PM
    Dear Colleagues,
We are conducting a research study exploring academic library workers' experiences with Artificial Intelligence(AI)-generated hallucinated or ghost articles. Ghost or hallucinated articles refer to citations that appear legitimate but reference non-existent works.
We invite you to participate in this study if your role includes either:
    • Processing interlibrary loan article requests, or
    • Assisting patrons in finding scholarly articles and research materials (reference services).
There are two separate surveys, one for each group. Each survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Your participation is voluntary, and all responses will remain confidential. The findings will provide insights into the prevalence of these requests.
To participate, please click the appropriate link below based on your role. Please fill out both if that is applicable to your role:
This study has been reviewed and approved by the University of Utah Institutional Review Board and SUNY Brockport Institutional Review Board. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact the investigators listed below, the University of Utah Institutional Review Board at 801-581-3655 or IRB@hsc.utah.edu, or SUNY Brockport Institutional Review Board at (585) 395-2472 or irb@brockport.edu
The surveys will close on Thursday, September 18th. We greatly appreciate the time and expertise you have contributed to this important research.
    Thank you,
    Dana Laird, MLS, dlaird@brockport.edu
    Alicia Marrese, MSILS, amarrese@brockport.edu
