Final Call for ANSS Committee Volunteers - Immediate Opportunities Available!

  • 1.  Final Call for ANSS Committee Volunteers - Immediate Opportunities Available!

    Posted May 16, 2025 02:47 PM

    Dear ANSS Colleagues,

As we approach the end of the academic year, I'm finalizing committee appointments for the 2025-2027 term. While many positions have been filled, we still have several important opportunities available for immediate appointment.

    Urgent Needs:

    1. Subject and Bibliographic Access Committee - We're looking to revitalize this important committee that addresses bibliographic access issues in anthropology, sociology, and criminal justice. We need both a chair and committee members. This is an excellent opportunity for catalogers and metadata specialists, as well as those interested in subject access to social science materials.
    2. Criminal Justice/Criminology Discussion Group - We need one more co-convener to work with Scott Hertzberg in planning and facilitating discussions about criminal justice/criminology librarianship.
    3. Liaison Committee - We're seeking members to support our liaisons to professional organizations like AAA, ASA, and ACJS. Help strengthen relationships between libraries and these disciplinary organizations.
    4. Resource Review & Bibliography Committee - We have a few additional openings for members to review research tools in anthropology, sociology, and criminal justice.
    5. Instruction and Information Literacy Committee - We have a few additional openings for members to work on information literacy frameworks and instructional resources for anthropology, sociology, and criminal justice.

    Time Commitment:

    • Virtual participation is fully supported - physical attendance at conferences is NOT required
    • Most committee work can be completed online through virtual meetings
    • Typically includes monthly or quarterly virtual meetings
    • 2-year term (July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2027)

This is an excellent opportunity to get involved in ANSS, build your professional network, and contribute to our field. Many of you recently participated in our successful AI program, and we'd love to have your energy and ideas on our committees!

    Deadline: May 26, 2025

If you're interested, please email me directly at mimmo@asu.edu with:

    • Your name and institution
    • The position(s) you're interested in

Thank you for considering service to ANSS!

Cheers, Domenico (Mimmo) Bonanni, ANSS Vice-Chair, 2024-2025
