Greetings all,
Please join EMIERT for a robust discussion on Combating Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia with Multicultural Children's Literature on Monday, December 14, 2020, at 3 P.M. CST.
With the rise in anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, the need to break down stereotypes is more urgent than ever. In this session, a panel featuring representatives from the Association of Jewish Libraries and co-author of the book Muslims in Story: Expanding Multicultural Understanding through Children's and Young Adult Literature will discuss the history and current state of Jewish and Muslim children's literature. Attention will be given to the issue of representation for educating "window" readers while reflecting the authentic experience of "mirror" readers. Experts, Heidi Rabinowitz and Sadaf Saddique, will recommend titles and discuss publishing issues common to both minority groups along with resources for positive representations of these groups in our communities.
Got a question about Jewish or Muslim children's books? Registrants may also submit their pre-webinar questions through the registration form. Our experts will answer questions online.
