Greetings! The Anthropology and Sociology Section (ANSS) Conference Program Planning Committee would like to invite you to a webinar on Wednesday, July 22 at 3 pm ET (12 noon PT) to explore the challenges currently being faced by social science librarians, archivists and other cultural heritage institutions.

In the current moment, libraries, archives, and museums are facing changes to practices that run counter to personal, professional, and organizational values. In this webinar, we will explore the ways in which these changes are impacting the work of social science librarians, archivists, and other cultural heritage workers.

Andrew Beman-Cavallaro, Social Science Liaison at the University of South Florida, will discuss the political, economic, and social pressures affecting academic social science librarians and their fellow faculty colleagues. He will discuss state audits, accreditation, syllabi, curriculum, and library outreach, collections, and spaces.

Molly Follup, doctoral student in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Illinois Chicago, will discuss how these shifts have impacted people within the LGBTQ+ community. Amid nationwide attempts to censor LGBTQ+ education, how are LGBTQ+ inclusive libraries, museums, and archives able to support queer, trans, and allied individuals? She will share personal and professional experiences developing and facilitating curricula, community-based programming, and arts-based research to explore these issues.

The event will be moderated by Catherine Bowers, incoming ANSS Chair.

You can register for the event via Zoom

We hope to see you there!
