    Hi All,

My university is looking into Barnes & Noble's First Day program, known as an automatic textbook billing or inclusive access kind of program.  Billed as a way to save students money, adoptions across campuses have been increasing. As with serial subscriptions in the 90s, these bundled subscriptions to course content save money in the short term and likely come with expensive, long-term consequences. Despite being marketed as inclusion- and equity-oriented, I expect that these programs will drive down use of course reserves, especially when adopted campus-wide.

If your campus participates in these automatic billing programs, have you noticed any impact on course reserves usage on your campus?

    Thank you,
    Paige
