Hello all. I am looking for fellow librarians who are interested in conducting research about the information behavior of people online who self-report (via blogging and other social media) having a spiritual and/or religious relationship with an AI chatbot, LLM, and similar publicly available technologies.  Please email me at martina.junod@louisville.edu to set up time to discuss ideas so far, as well as what perspectives you would like to bring to the collaborative project.  The current goal of this project is to write a paper which will be submitted for peer review and publication, as well as a smaller report in the form of poster presentation at a conference.

This project is very much so in the brainstorming and planning stages. I have some background lit that has methodologies of studying online behavior, such as this study:

Thulin, E. J., Walton, M. A., Bonar, E. E., & Fernandez, A. (2024). Examining the Popularity, Content, and Intersections With the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Definition of Recovery in a Nonclinical Online Cannabis Cessation Community: Infodemiology Study of Reddit Posts
Background: Cannabis consumption has increased in recent years, as has cannabis use disorder. While researchers have explored public online community discussions of active cannabis use, less is known about the popularity and content of publicly available online communities intended to support cannabis cessation.
