ALA Core's Competencies and Education for a Career in Cataloging Interest Group is looking for two volunteers to serve in leadership positions over the next two years.
The Competencies and Education for a Career in Cataloging Interest Group provides a forum to discuss the current state of education and employment in cataloging and explores the relationship between cataloging practitioners and employers with library educators.
Selected volunteers will serve a two-year term: one year as Co-Vice Chairs (July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026) and one year as Co-Chairs (July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027).
As a Co-Vice Chair, you will support the Co-Chairs in organizing and conducting interest group meetings, which include selecting speakers and topics for presentations.
As Co-Chair, you will plan interest group meetings, offer programming for ALA Core Interest Group Week and ALA Annual Conference & Exhibition, file reports to ALA Core, and select incoming Co-Vice Chairs.
ALA Core membership is required. Attendance at the ALA Annual Conference & Exhibition is encouraged for the one-year Co-Vice Chair term, and required for the one-year Co-Chair term. The 2026 annual conference is in Chicago, IL, and the 2027 annual conference is in New Orleans, LA.
No prior experience is necessary.
Please submit your name and a brief statement of interest to the incoming Co-Chairs Maren Mayer (maren.mayer@wisc.edu) and Nathan Putnam (nputnam2@neiu.edu) by Monday, June 9, 2025.
