Dear ANSS Colleagues,
As the incoming ANSS Vice-Chair, I'm currently making committee appointments for the 2025-2027 term. While many positions have been filled, we still have a few important opportunities available. These are excellent ways to become involved in ANSS, network with colleagues, and contribute to our vibrant community.
Open Positions:
1. Anthropology Librarians Discussion Group (1 more Co-Convener needed)
- Facilitate discussions about anthropology librarianship at ALA conferences
- Work with current co-convener to plan engaging session topics
- Connect librarians interested in anthropology resources and services
- 2-year term (July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2027)
2. Criminal Justice/Criminology Discussion Group (1 more Co-Convener needed)
- Facilitate discussions about criminal justice/criminology librarianship at ALA conferences
- Work with current co-convener to plan engaging session topics
- Connect librarians interested in criminal justice resources and services
- 2-year term (July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2027)
3. Instruction and Information Literacy Committee (2 more Members needed)
- Develop and review information literacy frameworks for anthropology, sociology, and criminal justice
- Create resources to support instruction in these disciplines
- Collaborate with teaching faculty and other librarians
- 2-year term (July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2027)
4. Liaison Committee (2 more Members needed)
- Support ANSS liaisons to organizations like ASA, AAA, and ACJS
- Help build collaborative partnerships with professional associations
- Contribute to cross-disciplinary communication
- 2-year term (July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2027)
5. Membership Committee (1 more Member needed)
- Help coordinate recruitment and retention activities for ANSS
- Participate in planning social events at conferences
- Support outreach to new and potential members
- 2-year term (July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2027)
6. Resource Review & Bibliography Committee (4 more Members needed)
- Review and analyze bibliographic and research tools in our fields
- Contribute to identifying valuable resources for ANSS members
- Help create content useful for reference, research, and collection development
- 2-year term (July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2027)
7. Subject and Bibliographic Access Committee (Chair and Members needed)
- Opportunity to revitalize this important committee
- Focus on bibliographic access issues for anthropology, sociology, and criminal justice materials
- Address subject headings, call numbers, and name authorities
- Process proposals for Library of Congress Subject Headings
- 2-year term (July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2027)
Time Commitment:
- Virtual participation is fully supported - physical attendance at conferences is NOT required
- Most committee work can be completed online through virtual meetings and email
- Typically includes monthly or quarterly virtual meetings
