Hi Elizabeth. We currently have MAXQDA available to on our campus. I like that it has the same interface for both Mac and PC versions and that they do free licenses for qualitative research classes so students can have access on their own devices while they learn.
If you are interested in free options, QualCoder and Taguette are good options. Van Tran at Temple has a really excellent guide to QualCoder and recently did a webinar comparing it to other proprietary options. Vicky Rampin, one of the folks who works on Taguette also recently did a workshop on that tool for IASSIST.
I've used most of these tools at some point (lots of materials on my own guide) and would be happy to talk about any specific comparison points for NVivo either here via email.
*edited to add link to QualCoder workshop

Subject: Alternatives to NVivo
Hello ANSS colleagues,
At Lehigh, we are exploring alternatives to NVivo. If any of you have switched from NVivo to something else, I would appreciate your insight. Please feel free to reply to this email or contact me directly at
