    Artificial intelligence in PubMed's Best Match algorithm: Raising awareness about AI when using and teaching PubMed

    PubMed's Best Match sorting algorithm became the default search method in 2020. Since then, PubMed has only been increasing its use of artificial intelligence. Similarly, databases are increasingly using artificial intelligence, without it being clearly stated or explained. Artificial intelligence has many great benefits, but awareness around its impact is essential.

    In this ACRL Health Sciences Interest Group First Friday Forum, guest speakers Lucy Kiester and Clara Turp will discuss artificial intelligence and PubMed. They will provide a brief overview of how PubMed uses artificial intelligence in their Best Match algorithm and some of the ethical implications of using artificial intelligence in database searching. Lucy Kiester was the undergraduate medicine liaison librarian at McGill University Library. She is now the Librarian and Coordinator for Academic Transitions at Vancouver Island University. Clara Turp is the Discovery Systems Librarian at McGill University Library. They are excited to discuss these topics with you!

    Please come share your experiences using, teaching, and understanding artificial intelligence algorithms.  Lucy and Clara's article will be used as a jumping off point to discuss experiences, ethical implications, and ways to face these changes and challenges.
