Join us for a discussion on how to identify methods for continuing education and professional development in equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism in library work. Three library leaders in access services will share their institutions' methods for outreach in and assessment of equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism efforts within university communities that can be led by library workers.

Presenter Biographies:
Holly Hampton is the Head of User Services/User Experience Librarian at California State University at San Marcos. In this role, her philosophy includes ensuring the staff and faculty within her unit feel supported, empowered, engaged, and fulfilled. Her research includes examining how this philosophy can be applied, and how academic libraries can evolve and improve to continue to meet the ever-changing needs of its users. Holly has worked with library administrators, colleagues, and campus associations to learn and help others learn how equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism practices can be applied within the organization in an effort to improve the experience of BIPOC and move the organization forward.
As the Student Engagement Librarian within LMU's Library Outreach & Communications department, Ray Andrade leads the library's efforts in serving students by coordinating library orientations for all undergraduate and graduate students, developing programs and special events, and promoting the library's central role in supporting student success. He especially focuses on collaborating with multiple campus departments to support traditionally underserved populations, including (but not limited to) first-generation, Asian-American, Black, Latinx, LGBTQ, international, and transfer students, and student athletes. Beyond his librarian responsibilities, Ray has also served as a mentor to first-generation students throughout the 10 year history of LMU's First To Go program, and he's also a long-time member of LMU's Latinx Staff Association.
Carlo Medina is the Director of Access Services for UCLA Libraries. In his role, he is responsible for leading teams in library access services across all UCLA campus libraries. He has presented on student worker training and professional development; equity, diversity and inclusion in library recruitment and retention; and integrated library system migrations. He is currently serving as co-chair of the Implementation Coordinators team for the UC Systemwide Integration Library System
