  • 1.  A sweet Pubmed search....

Hi all:  we're working with a research group on a review of the effects of high sugar diets on cholesterol and heart disease.  I'm wondering if anyone with experience searching similar topics has any suggestions for effectively searching the database for high sugar diets without bringing in a lot of irrelevant results?  There are MESH terms that get at this, such as "fructose-adverse effects" or "sugar sweetened beverage".  However, the team's sugar search also includes what I think is too broad a set of other terms:  monosaccharide[tiab] OR disaccharide[tiab] OR glucose[tiab] OR galactose[tiab] OR fructose[tiab] OR dextrose[tiab] OR sucrose[tiab] OR lactose[tiab] OR maltose[tiab].

I'm wondering how they might be able to narrow their results to studies specifically on high sugar diets without losing relevant studies.  Glucose as a term , for example, has close to 400K results, but how to focus it without relying simply on "glucose-adverse effects" [MESH]."?

    Any suggestions ?

    Thanks so much!

    Jim
