Dear Colleagues,
We invite you to join us for the 2025 Institute for Research Design in Libraries (IRDL) Scholars' Speaker Series: Open Conversations on Research and Structural Inequality. This series of presentations is designed to provide a space for dialogue about processes associated with western social science approaches to research. The series is coordinated by a working group of IRDL Scholars. As librarians, educators, and researchers, we are pleased to share this opportunity to reflect and incorporate what we learn from these speakers into our own research efforts.
Each speaker session is free to attend via Zoom; anyone interested is welcome. Each session is 90 minutes; the first 60 minutes will be a presentation by the speaker and questions from the audience, the last 30 minutes will be an informal discussion by the session moderators about how we may apply what we learned in the session to our work in a library and archives setting.
Speakers include:
- Alex Hanna, Director of Research at the Distributed AI Research Institute (DAIR)
- Baharak Yousefi, librarian at Simon Fraser University and PhD candidate in the Department of Geography at SFU
- Sara Goldrick-Rab, senior fellow at Education Northwest and sociology professor at the Community College of Philadelphia
- Annemaree Lloyd, social science researcher conducting research into information literacies and contemporary information practices
If you have questions regarding the Speaker Series or IRDL, please contact Marie Kennedy (

We look forward to learning along with you.
