The 55th Earth Day celebration is devoted to the future of energy. The importance of renewable energy cannot be overstated. The goal is to triple the increase of renewable energy by 2030. The world already is using renewable energy in several different forms: solar, wind, geothermal and others.
Quick facts: Denmark derives 50% of its energy with wind power. Kenya achieves similar results with geothermal energy. Brazyl derives more than half of its energy in a form of hydro. The largest oil-producing state in the United States, Texas, is also a leader in solar energy production.
Take action: It is important to remember that it is up to people, up to us, to fight for renewable energy to become our own sources of power. You can ask your utility company to provide your electricity supply from a renewable source, such as solar or wind. You can investigate whether your state is providing support to homeowners to install solar panels on your roof. The power of energy is our future, and we can give it to our planet.
