by Victoria Lagerkvist, Library developer Region Sörmland

Hållbara bibblan or Sustainable library explores how public libraries contribute to Agenda 2030 and the global goals. Collaborating with public libraries and partners, it fosters innovative approaches. Notably, "MIL-jam Agenda 2030" united library staff for creative activities, supporting a sustainable world. Themes include aligning library missions with lifelong learning, reducing digital disparities, and promoting global solidarity for climate action and sustainable behaviors. The project addresses libraries in sustainable cities, reusing data, and supporting global progress. It highlights libraries' role in transitions and sustainable solutions. An inspiring initiative for a better future.

    10.20-10.40 The sustainability lab (Norway)

by Ingrid Stensnes, Creative and digital learning coordinator and project manager at Bergen Public Library

The sustainability lab project at Bergen Public Library is a two year long project funded by the national Library of Norway. In this project the library wishes to contribute to the SDG-goals by giving the public essential knowledge and skills needed to understand the goals and to live a more sustainable life. The project has three main goals:

    1. To give the public knowledge and skills related to the SDG-goals.

    2. To make research on sustainability available for everyone

    3. To show the public how the libraries work is contributing to reaching the SDG-goals and how using the library is a sustainable choice.

The project has been going on for a year now and Ingrid will share what we have done so far in the project – including what we have learned and are planning to do next.

    10:40-11:00 Fridge movement (Iceland)

Hrönn Björgvinsdóttir, Municipal Library of Akureyri, Iceland

Outside the Municipal Library in Akureyri there is a community fridge, more commonly known as the Freedge (free fridge, get it?). The Freedge is a sharing mechanism aiming to reduce food waste. Anyone can leave food and everyone can take food, and in the process we build a stronger community and raise awareness about food waste. What are the obstacles and benefits of a library Freedge? Could your library be part of the Freedge movement?

11:00-11:20 The Nordic Library Associations on Sustainability in Libraries

Perspectives on sustainability in libraries from representatives from all Nordic Library Associations.

Juha Manninen - Finland / Silvia Ernhagen - Sweden / Vidar Lund - Norway / Þórný Hlynsdóttir - Iceland / Thomas Sture Rasmussen - Denmark
