Hello SustainRT members,
The SustainRT steering committee seeks nominations to serve as a member of the newly created ALA United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Committee. ALA Past President Loida Garcia-Febo will serve as Chair. The term of service will be through the end of June 2024. Committee work will be done virtually with a likely meeting at ALA Annual 2023 in Chicago (not required to attend, but encouraged). The meeting frequency will likely be bimonthly meetings for one hour.
Committee description: The ALA UN Sustainable Development Goals Committee works to promote and provide support for library involvement in activities to help achieve the 17 UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals in communities and countries. The Committee coordinates with IFLA to highlight the value of libraries' crucial role in achieving the SDGs in the U.S and elsewhere.
If interested in this role, please submit a brief statement of interest to me (tinachan@mit.edu). The deadline to nominate is February 3. At the February steering committee meeting, the steering committee will review applications to recommend one SustainRT member to ALA.
