This year, SustainRT has chosen to highlight climate justice throughout the month of April through a series of social media posts. We look forward to sharing resources and hearing from you!
What is climate justice?
Climate justice addresses the overlap between social justice and climate. As the University of California Center for Climate Justice notes, climate justice recognizes that the impacts of climate change are disproportionately felt by disadvantaged communities and that it “seeks solutions that address the root causes of climate change and in doing so, simultaneously address a broad range of social, racial, and environmental injustices.”
Implementing Climate Justice in Libraries
The National Climate Action Strategy for Libraries lists strategies and simple ways that libraries can engage including: assessing who is most vulnerable to the climate hazards in your service area and ensuring the library’s climate adaptation planning considers them and becoming a Climate Resilience Hub.
In addition to reviewing these resources, check in throughout the month for more information on climate justice in libraries.
