  • 1.  Coupon Option for Round Table Memberships ?

    HI SustainRT Board -  (I think?!)..... I read in SRRT meeting agenda    "Update on Coupon Option for Round Table Memberships  - Al Kagan"  >> Can you tell us more about this? i am concerned that RT will not be able to offer free student memberships anymore and how SustainRT and other RT will help with this issues?  appreciate any info you can provide us!  beth

    Hi Beth,

    I have reached out to Al Kagan from SRRT to find out more information. I didn't hear anything at the Bylaws convention at LibLearnX about this "coupon option" and can't find it in my notes about the dues standardization. As soon as I find something out, I will report it here.

    Thanks for asking. The ALA Membership Committee did not agree to the Round Table Coordinating Assembly's top rated proposal which included free student membership. SRRT tried to put that proposal back on the table but the ALA Council did not go along. At the last moment, the idea of coupons for free membership was introduced, and therefore the Council approved the Membership Committee's proposal without a lot of debate. In SRRT's meeting with the Membership Office yesterday, we tried to clarify how the coupons would work. We insisted that it had to be easy and obvious. We seem to have agreement on that. On the SRRT dues webpage, under student membership, it will show the coupon code to use. So hopefully, this will work out. Other round tables will have their own coupon codes for whatever they wish. It is a second-best option and a workaround, but I am cautiously hopeful that it will work. If there are problems, we will continue to push for solutions.

    Thanks so much for this information Al. This is an interesting compromise for the three round tables that offer free student membership. I will definitely keep my eyes open for more information from ALA's membership committee as the dues standardization process and bylaws vote begins.
