    Hi all, 

    President McCauley is passionate about sustainability and wants to support it in her presidency. Consider contributing to ALA and promoting sustainability by serving on a standing committee! 

    The following can also be viewed as an ALA Member News Item: 

    ALA President-Elect Maria McCauley invites members to volunteer for ALA standing committees for the 2026-2028 term.  

    Serving on an ALA standing committee provides members with opportunities to: 

    • Gain valuable professional development and leadership experience 

    • Influence key issues and policies within ALA and the broader library community  

    • Collaborate with colleagues from diverse library types across the country 

    • Build their resume and develop new skills 

     To volunteer, please complete the online ALA volunteer form. Be sure to select "ALA" in the drop-down menu on the main form. To be considered for the 2026-2028 term, forms must be submitted no later than September 30, 2025. Submissions received after this date will be considered for the following term. 

    Committee appointments will be made by ALA President-elect Maria McCauley, in consultation with the Committee on Committees & Committee on Appointments. Notifications will be sent to appointed individuals throughout Spring 2026 for terms beginning July 1, 2026. Most member terms will extend through June 30, 2028. 

    Members may also indicate interest in serving as a Committee Chair (typically one-year terms) within their application. 

    Volunteers are needed for over 30 ALA standing committees. A full list, including each committee's charge and composition, can be found here. 

    In addition, members may express interest in joining four subcommittees or related groups under the Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services (ODLOS) Advisory Committee. Please note: the ALA President-elect does not make these appointments, and timelines may differ. For questions about ODLOS groups, contact diversity@ala.org. 

    New opportunities to serve on ALA committees, task forces, or working groups may arise throughout the year. Watch ALA News, AL Direct, and the Member Community on ALA Connect for updates-or indicate ongoing interest via the volunteer form. 

    We appreciate your dedication and hope you'll consider serving during the 2026-2028 term. Submit your form by September 30, 2025, to be considered.
