Dear members of SustainRT,
Please consider participating in a survey from the American Library Association's (ALA) Core Values Task Force. The survey will be open until Feb 28, 2023. The Task Force is charged by ALA Council to review and suggest updates to the current ALA Core Values. Additionally, the Task Force wants to ensure the Core Values align with the Library Bill of Rights, Code of Ethics, and Libraries: An American Value documents. As member leaders, we are seeking your input on what you feel are the top five core values of librarianship.
The Task Force asks that you keep these definitions in mind as you look at them. We are defining values as a guiding principle or ideal; they should be aspirational.
VALUES: A guiding principle or ideal (aspirational)
ETHICS: Application of guiding principle (practical)
RIGHTS: What people are entitled to by a system or social convention
The results of this survey will be used to help guide the Task Force in making recommendations to Council on possible revision to the ALA Core Values.
