At my library children earn "book bucks" for reading time logged and activity challenges completed which they can then use to purchase prizes from the SR "prize store." Some of the plastic free items we have in the prize store include coupons for a free cookie at the local bakery, bath bombs, pencils, flower seed packets, fun erasers, scrunchies, marbles, notebooks, stickers, novelty soaps, fancy bookmarks, woven string friendship bracelets, cutout paper shadow puppets, simple art kits from the local dollar store (painting wooden mobiles, plaster animals w/ paints, origami paper w/ instructions, etc.), modeling clay, coloring books, and others. We also include inexpensive books we purchase through
The Reading Warehouse that children can buy to emphasize developing their own personal library and the fact that reading itself is the prize. :)

Subject: Goodie Bag Alternatives
Hi. What are some good, fun alternatives that libraries have come up with to replace the trinkets that have traditionally come in summer reading prize bags from companies like Oriental Trading Company?
Thank you.
