Surveys in Project Outcome: Separate Ones for English and Spanish?

    Hello All,

I wanted to clarify the information I provided on Monday regarding creating Project Outcome surveys in Spanish from the template for this Digital Literacy cohort. Even if you do not have a need to distribute surveys in languages other than English, you will find some benefits from reviewing this message.

    I. Be Sure to Use the Template
The most important thing to remember is to start your surveys from Mary-Clare's template - not matter the language. This ensures that all the survey responses collected for this cohort are together and available for initiative reporting by you and PLA. You can confirm that responses from your surveys will fall within the cohort if there is an asterisk next to "Survey" in the Class column on your Survey Management dashboard (see image below):

II. Intro Message - Spanish Translation
Once you have gone through the steps of completing your survey (gotten to the orange checkmark), you can then go back to the Survey Management dashboard and Edit Survey to make your language specific edits. As I mentioned on Monday, in order to have a fully translated survey, you will want to make a separate survey for English and Spanish. This is because the Intro Message for your survey can only be in one language. The platform automatically translates the six, standard survey questions and the survey footer, but not the Intro Message (we're working on this!). For those creating Digital Learning surveys in Spanish, here is suggested text for you to use for the Intro Message:

Por favor, tómese unos minutos para responder esta breve encuesta y decirnos si, como resultado de su participación en el programa de Digital Learning...

III. Custom Questions - Use Write Your Own
If you are adding custom questions to your surveys, for all non-English versions, you will want to choose the "Write your own question" option from the drop down menu. Boxes will then appear for you to enter the Spanish translation of your question(s). If you skip this step, any custom questions added to your survey - even if chosen from the dropdown list - will not appear on the Spanish-language version once it's translated on the platform.

I hope this clarifies what I tried to share earlier this week about the benefit of creating separate surveys for your programs conducted in English versus ones in Spanish (or French). Please feel free to reach out if you have questions.

    Thanks!
    Katina
