Project Outcome (www.projectoutcome.org) helps public libraries understand and share the impact of essential library services and programs. It is designed to give libraries simple tools and supportive resources to help turn better data into better libraries. This community is for Project Outcome users at public libraries to discuss their use of outcome measurement, ask each other about patron engagement strategies, and further the thoughts and conversations that begin with projectoutcome.org. Here, you can find various threads to ask and answer questions, start your own conversations, or further your own learning about how libraries are using outcome measurement to improve their patron-focused programs and services.

  • 1.  PLA digital literacy workshop grant - entering survey responses

    Posted Dec 28, 2023 02:14 PM

    Hello all

I may have missed the direction on this - feeling a bit lost actually.

I have entered all of my surveys from the digital literacy workshops, saved the excel file and uploaded it.

    The upload was successful.

But, when I go to view a quick report - there is 0 responses - no data found.

    What's up with that.

    Ugh

    Thanks for the help,

    Michelle

    Hi Michelle,

Thanks for sharing this frustration with the group. In a separate email you stated that your solution was to enter the surveys individually, but I wanted to respond here with a few pointers for others.

First, I will direct all to the Entering Paper Survey Responses tutorial (behind the Project Outcome login). This tutorial shows steps to enter responses individually, with the Bulk Entry Form, and via the Bulk Entry Template.

If you have collected responses via another survey tool (such as SurveyMonkey or Qualtrics), and are using the Bulk Entry Template to upload those responses to Project Outcome, make sure the responses exactly match the formatting of the template. The image below is of the dropdown menu within the template in each cell of the columns with the initial four standard questions:

To match the template, you most likely will need to change the data in your SurveyMonkey or Qualtrics download for these questions. The easiest way in Excel is to highlight the columns with the responses to the first four questions, and perform a Find and Replace All - where you find Strongly Agree and replace it with strongly_agree, then replace Strongly Disagree with strongly_disagree. If necessary, find N/A and replace with n_a too. This mismatch in formatting is most often the reason bulk uploads of survey responses to Project Outcome fail.

Additionally, we are working this year on making sure the language you see while utilizing the Bulk Upload Template is clear and that the popups are in the most useful location on your screen. Messages regarding errors in the upload file (as described above), successful upload, and completed processing should be more clear to users in the near future.

Thanks again Michelle for sharing this with the group. If anyone has questions, feel free to drop them here or email info@projectoutcome.org directly.

    All the best,
    Katina
