  • 1.  Library card access practices

    Hello,

I am working with a group to research best practices revolving around library card sign up and access.  I am looking for any stories or anecdotes around library access for customers, specifically with regards to residency requirements. Was someone's life changed due to being allowed to get a card without all the necessary requirements?  Or the opposite and a policy change could be considered? Anything will help, all will be anonymous.  I would like to know city and state you are from.  I greatly appreciate any assistance. Thank you so much.

    Hi Melissa,

I am assuming you are likely already aware of Brooklyn PLs Library Card Access research. Sending just in case you aren't. I'm part of the working group and they will be releasing a framework for good practices for library card signup in the spring, I believe, which will include briefs from specific libraries and information on several aspects of card signup/access. They've laid some great groundwork. Happy to also tell you a bit about how our library handles access as we have worked really hard to lower barriers to card access for all individuals. Please feel free to email at jgarner@northlibertyiowa.org if you'd like to chat more. Best,
