There is a lot of fear and uncertainty that can come with serving the public – after all, there are so many different kinds of people with so many different needs and behaviors. How can we possibly prepare for how to handle every situation? While this program doesn't provide an "if X, then do Y and Z" formula, it will provide a collection of powerful tools to add to a library's customer service toolbox. The library social worker panel will share content from the new publication, "The Scenarios Workbook," and provide information and a framework for what it means to use a trauma-informed lens in all facets of customer service, while facilitating equity and supporting patrons with life challenges in the library. Attendees will receive a copy of "The Scenarios Workbook."
Learning Outcomes
1. Understand and apply a social worker-inspired customer service ethos in patron interactions.
2. Recognize and respond to patron needs using a person-centered approach.
3. Gain tools to cope with a variety of situations, including applying stress management and self-care tools.
