    Happy December!

For this month's discussion thread, we're looking into the new year.

What are your professional New Year's resolutions? It could be anything from gaining a new skill or speaking at an event.

I'll go first. My professional goals are to connect with more people and improve my skills with policy development. I've already joined another professional roundtable, and I have a stack of policy development books ready to go.

Now it's your turn. What are your goals for 2026?

Hi! New member of ALA and my professional New Year's resolution is to try and start being more active in the library field. I've been a librarian for 3 years now and I think its about time to step out of my comfort zone, start networking, and getting involved.

    Happy December!

For the new year, I plan to work hard on getting some form of literature published--preferably an academic article if I can figure that out--as well as learning more management skills (like financials, board experience, and other management where I have little experience).

Hello! Similar to Brandon, I also have a goal of publishing some sort of writing whether a blog, a book review, or an article of some kind. Here's to 2026!

Hello All! My New Year's Resolution is to really be judicious in what I'm taking on. I have quite a few responsibilities amping up and rolling off this year. I need to be very aware when I start to off load these duties and be careful when taking things on afterwards. Sometimes, I tend to take on too much when I feel like I'm starting to get less busy.

I also have co-authored an article that has been languishing after a few rejected submissions, I would love to work with my collaboraters and make some headway towards publication!

Great question! I would like to get more involved in ALA in the new year, possibly by volunteering for a committee. I'd also like to learn more about evidence synthesis, as it is a potential research interest of mine and a useful topic for me to know about as a science librarian.

My hope for the new year is to graduate in March with my MLIS, move back to the states, and hopefully find a job! Or, if unable to find a job at least volunteer and get plugged in somehow into the career field.

My professional New Year's resolution is to create a culture of team meetings as safe spaces and encourage staff who are reluctant to share their ideas or thoughts to feel more welcome and comfortable speaking up and sharing.
