Recruitment!! MAGIRT leadership positions are open

  • 1.  Recruitment!! MAGIRT leadership positions are open

    Posted Aug 28, 2023 03:11 PM

Heading into fall, MAGIRT has multiple leadership opportunities available. These positions are great for academic librarians pursuing tenure, new librarians looking to lengthen their CVs, or anyone who wishes to improve their technical and leadership abilities in a supportive environment working alongside experienced professionals.

Most committees meet one hour per month. Time commitments outside of meeting attendance depend on your desired level of involvement and the current projects of the respective committee. To apply or for more information, please send an email with the subject "MAGIRT Volunteering" to tkiser@msu.edu, erin.cheever@gmail.com, and kdyke@okstate.edu.

Chair, OPPC (Online Presence and Publications Committee)

    • Perfect for an organized individual who wants to hone their leadership skills to bestow success on several important projects. Works with the MAGIRT webmaster and base line editor-in-chief. In the short term, the OPPC chair will help revitalize the MAGIRT website and usher in the next generation of base line. In the long term, this position has the chance to establish a social media presence for MAGIRT.

    Webmaster ala.org/MAGIRT

    • Gain valuable Drupal experience as you redesign the MAGIRT website. Much of the content for the new website has already been created. Your task will be to assemble the pages and put an aesthetic spin on them. Once the new website is launched, you will have the responsibility of maintaining our web presence.

Columnist, base line "New Maps and Cartographic Materials"

    • Alert your colleagues to the best of the latest crop of maps and cartographic materials to add to their collections. You will have the pleasure of reviewing new spatial information resources, and, if you so choose, the liberty to create your own rating system. We can't quite conjure up the map librarian equivalent of Siskel and Ebert's "two thumbs up," but maybe you can?

    Chair, Geotech and GIS Committee

    • This is an evolving position overseeing the newly combined Geotech Committee and the former GIS Discussion Group. The discussion group historically held recurring open converstations on library issues concerning geographic information technologies, while the Geotech Committee created high-quality and tangible outputs benefitting the larger geospatial library community. As the next leader of the committee, you will steer the future of the group and make a lasting impact on the ever-expanding field of GIS librarianship.

    Chair, Education Committee

    • As the responsible party for the MAGIRT webinar series, this person is MAGIRT's star-maker, with the power to assemble a showcase of celebrity map and geospatial librarians presenting on hot topics. The chair also serves as liaison to the ALA Education Committee and administers MAGIRT's inimitable Online Guide to U.S. Map Collections.

    MAGIRT Liaisons to ALA Committees

Urgent! Candidates needed by September 5. Offering two great opportunities to influence our profession. Volunteering for one of these seats ensures you will always have the latest happenings in these vital committees to share with your colleagues.

Liaison, ALA Intellectual Freedom Committee (IFC)
