  • 1.  MAGIRT dinner planning at ALA Annual

    Posted Jan 31, 2023 03:45 PM
    Greetings--

I'm seeking one or two kind volunteers to help me plan the MAGIRT Awards Dinner on the Saturday night of ALA Annual in Chicago. I have no experience planning big dinner events, and I am certain that all outcomes will be better for everybody if I don't attempt to tackle this by myself. :)

It shouldn't be a big time commitment and is an opportunity to help plan a fun evening in Chicago.

Please email me if you might be interested in planning this together.

    Many thanks--
    Tim Kiser, MAGIRT vice-chair

Happy to help you with this Tim. First thing we should do is recruit someone in MAGIRT who is in/near Chicago and knows the restaurant scene well. The rest of it will just be putting in some time to do legwork and making sure to communicate well with the members.

I was in charge of planning the dinner for the last time ALA was supposed to be in Chicago, however that meeting had to be moved virtually. It was going to be our 40th anniversary celebration and be held at a fine press studio with a catered meal and printing workshop. I am happy to share the contact information for the press if this is something that is still of interest.

That would be great Sierra! It is at least an option to explore, even if it turns out not to be available to us anymore. I was also thinking a couple of days ago that we have done Friday dinners at an Italian restaurant (name escapes me right now) at least twice over the years that everyone enjoyed and that has a separate banquet room for such events. To me that is key, trying to hold the Honors Award event itself in an open restaurant such as in one corner has not been comfortable to me in the past and my guess is probably not that comfortable to other customers nearby.

Please share what you have with Tim and myself. With thanks!

    Thanks, Sierra and Paige.

Following up on the original message, I've gotten generous offers of assistance with planning, so we should be set there. If anybody has restaurant suggestions for a 25-30 person dinner and awards event in Chicago, please feel free to share!
