Hello MAGIRT members -
The Executive Board had a special meeting today to discuss program planning for ALA Annual 2022. Proposals for conference programs are due October 1st; however, this only applies to our main MAGIRT program. We are still free to schedule our own other activities (for Annual 2022 as well as for virtual Midwinter).
For our "large" (ALA-wide) program, the Board members in attendance decided that an entry-level presentation on GIS and mapping basics, accessible to more than just specifically map librarians, would be a good idea. We also thought that Census 2020 would make a fruitful jumping-off point for that program. Further possibilities include collaborating with GODORT, as it seems likely that they will also be talking about the Census and this could help us broaden our audience.
The full
notes from this meeting are available in the MAGIRT Google Drive and are attached here in PDF format. (If you have trouble getting into the Google Doc, please let me know and I'll fix the settings.) Everyone should be able to view them, and Board members should be able to comment; I appreciate any needed corrections.
Thank you,
-Laura
