  • 1.  wall maps

The History Department has approached us to digitize their deteriorating collection of wall maps which they use in the classrooms.  We digitized one large map and the image looks pretty good, especially the zoom feature.  As long as these images are restricted to campus use, I see no copyright problems.  We do not have a large flatbed scanner; rather a simple set up using a Cannon camera and Photoshop to piece together the quadrants.  Our digitization unit is less than happy with the imperfectly assembled image, but I'm thinking this is a good service for the campus.  Has anybody had taken on a similar proejct involving wall maps?

    Chris,

We have done the same with some of our wall maps, particularly the old pull down classroom maps - there doesn't seem to be a better way unless you have am overhead scanner. I'd send a link to ours but we just recently discovered that the server they live on is having some issues so access is temporarily down. Once we get it back I'll try to remember to share.
