The mission of the Library Research Round Table (LRRT) is to contribute toward the extension and improvement of library research; to provide public program opportunities for describing and evaluating library research projects and for disseminating their findings; to inform and educate ALA members concerning research techniques and their usefulness in obtaining information with which to reach administrative decisions and solve problems; and expand the theoretical base of the field. LRRT also, serves as a forum for discussion and action on issues related to the literature and information needs for the field of library and information science.

Upcoming webinar: Supporting Research at the Community College Level

Our typical view of the college researcher involves sophisticated labs, an R1/R2 designation, and release hours to support professors as they innovate in their fields. At the community college level, faculty, staff, and students still conduct original research – but without many of the supports large universities have available. Community colleges also emphasize career and technical education in greater proportion than large universities. Join librarian Jennifer Goodland as she discusses the ways in which she supports the pursuit of advanced degrees among faculty and staff; advocates for trade publications in the library collection; and sometimes gets her hands dirty – literally – helping to support faculty in the field.

Jennifer Goodland started her library career in the previous century when we still used papyrus scrolls and clay tablets. She has since worked at institutions ranging from large R2 universities to the United Nations to community colleges with 400 FTE on a good day. As a community college librarian, she provides support to faculty and staff who are pursuing advanced degrees. She plans to marry Zotero as soon as it's legal.
