    Dear colleagues,
I'm saddened to share the news that our dear colleague, Terry Weech, passed away on Thursday, June 5.
He made significant contributions to advance international librarianship (through teaching, research and professional service) and quality of LIS education (ALA Committee on Accreditation and active service on IFLA SET). He contributed to many of the Mortenson Center activities, including hosting the Associates at his home and meeting with them, and participating in our initiatives. We last collaborated to co-organize the IFLA 2016 Satellite Meeting on "International Quality Assessment of LIS Education Programs" https://publish.illinois.edu/ifla-set-ltr-2016/
    Best,
    Clara

    Colleagues,
Yesterday we were informed that Associate Professor Emeritus Terry L. Weech passed away on Thursday, June 5.
Terry received both his MSLS ('65) and his PhD ('72) from what was then the University of Illinois Graduate School of Library Science. He joined the faculty as an associate professor in 1980 and retired 40 years later in December 2020.
The school's retirement post provides more information on Terry's career: https://ischool.illinois.edu/news-events/news/2020/12/terry-l-weech-retire
Kate Williams notes that he was a member of Congress of Racial Equity in the 60s  (remarks here https://mediaspace.illinois.edu/media/t/1_1iih43zu?st=2110) and he continued to be a strong voice for faculty governance throughout his tenure.
    Terry will be missed.
