The mission of the Library Research Round Table (LRRT) is to contribute toward the extension and improvement of library research; to provide public program opportunities for describing and evaluating library research projects and for disseminating their findings; to inform and educate ALA members concerning research techniques and their usefulness in obtaining information with which to reach administrative decisions and solve problems; and expand the theoretical base of the field. LRRT also, serves as a forum for discussion and action on issues related to the literature and information needs for the field of library and information science.

Registration for the 8th Empirical Librarians is now open. Learn more about EmpLibs 2025, the conference where supporting researchers and doing research meet! Join us in Richmond, VA, or online with this synchronous hybrid conference.

See our list of accepted sessions to learn more about our outstanding presentations

EmpLibs is a small conference that specifically focuses on the unique place of original research and original researchers in the larger information environment. We are a place where librarians who do research and librarians who support research can come together to share ideas and insights about original research by patrons and librarians. Presentations focus on practical "how to." Come hear advice about what works, what we learned, and how we can apply the presenters' insights for our own programs, projects, and research.

EmpLibs 2025 will be a synchronous hybrid in-person and virtual conference, with sessions simulcast so that virtual and ground-based audiences will see the same content simultaneously. Presenting teams may be on the ground in Richmond, virtual, or even both! We'll have facilitators in both modalities to help with microphones, Q&A, and other engagement needs.

Registration is $50.00 for either virtual or onsite attendees.

Registration for flexible modality onsite or virtual tickets is available until May 5th (there is no onsite-only option because we know that travel plans might change for health, funding, or other reasons). Virtual-only tickets will be available until May 16th.

The conference will be hosted at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, on Wednesday-Thursday, May 21-22nd, 2025. Click here for location information.

If you have any questions, please contact chair Nina Exner (nexner@vcu.edu). We hope to see you there!
