The mission of the Library Research Round Table (LRRT) is to contribute toward the extension and improvement of library research; to provide public program opportunities for describing and evaluating library research projects and for disseminating their findings; to inform and educate ALA members concerning research techniques and their usefulness in obtaining information with which to reach administrative decisions and solve problems; and expand the theoretical base of the field. LRRT also, serves as a forum for discussion and action on issues related to the literature and information needs for the field of library and information science.

    Dear LRRT Members,

    This is my last message as chair (2022-23)of the Library Research Round Table (LRRT). It has been a privilege and joy to serve in this role.

    Webinars

    Over the last year, LRRT has hosted seven research webinars with presenters from various roles in our library research communities addressing the theme: Collaborative Research. Over 200 attendees participated directly in the webinar series, and many others have accessed and continue to access the recording links to the webinars.     Library Research Seminar VIII

    The host for the Library Research Seminar (LRS) VIII is the University of Kentucky  (UK) School of Information Science, and UK Libraries. The LRS VIII will be held in October 2024.  Look for updates and news in the coming months.  The LRS VIII review committee would like to thank the institutions interested in hosting the seminar. There was a very competitive group of proposals submitted.

    ALA Annual LRRT Chair's Program

     The annual 2022-23 LRRT Chair's Program, hosted by myself and the incoming chair, Devin Savage,  included three LRRT Research Forum presentations and the Jesse H. Shera for Distinguished Published Research award presentations (see attachment). 

    2023 Research Forum presentations

    "What do families do all day? Mapping a public library's influence on families' daily literacy environments"  Presented by: Dr. J. Elizabeth Mills, Dr. Kathleen Campana,  Jacqueline Kociubuk

    " Social Workers in Public Libraries: Opportunity or Threat?"  Presented by: Don Latham and  Melissa Gross

    "From library thinking to community thinking: Helping libraries build a strengths-based understanding of underserved groups"  Presented by: Campana, Kathleen, Jacqueline Kociubuk, Michelle H Martin

    2023  Distinguished Published Research Award 

    Vanessa Kitzie, Diana Floegel, Sarah Barriage, and Shannon M. Oltmann for their article titled: How Visibility, Hypervisibility, and Invisibility Shape Library Staff and Drag Performer Perceptions of and Experiences with Drag Storytimes in Public Libraries published in The Library Quarterly, 92(3), 215-240. 

    A hearty "Thank you"  to the 2022-2023 Research Forum Committee:  Yin Zhang (chair), Gina R. Costello, and Jessica Kohout-Tailor. Thanks to the volunteers who joined the committee for the double-blind peer review of submissions. 

    Another hearty "Thank you" to those serving on the 2022-2023 Jesse H. Shera Award Committee co-chaired by Kabel N. Stanwicks, Jessica Kohout-Tailor, and Dr. Yin Zhang.

    LRRT Mentorship Program

    The LRRT Mentorship program also hosted a meeting at the 2023 ALA Annual Conference. Karen Harker (Member-at-Large), working with other team members revitalized the mentorship program in 2022. Learn more on the LRRT website mentorship program page https://www.ala.org/rt/lrrt/membershipprogram
