Censorship Questionnaire for Librarianship Dissertation

  • 1.  Censorship Questionnaire for Librarianship Dissertation

    Posted Jun 30, 2024 02:04 PM

You are invited to complete a short (10-15 min.) survey about book challenges in US public libraries (available here).

I am a Librarianship master's student from the US studying abroad in the UK, who is interested in teen/YA librarianship. As one of the biggest rising issues in the field, the recent influx in book challenges and censorship attempts has caught my attention. For my master's dissertation at the University of Sheffield, I am researching the effects of book challenges on librarians and library workers.

Please consider filling out the survey and sharing it with colleagues or friends.

I would like to note that taking part in this project is entirely confidential! All information will be entirely anonymized. Only the research team (myself & my supervisor) will have access to the information. I will be thematically analyzing the responses to identify common effects of book challenges. This includes potential changes in mood and morale for library workers and changes in library services. Then, if you volunteer to do so, you may be asked to participate in a short interview. This will build upon themes found in the questionnaire portion. These will also be anonymous & confidential!

If you have any questions or want clarification, please reach out! You can email me rgutierrez1@sheffield.ac.uk. An information sheet is available in the google form. This includes information on escalating complaints to my supervisor and the ethics team.

    Thank you!
