The mission of the Library Instruction Round Table (LIRT) is to provide a forum for discussion of activities, programs, and problems of instruction in the use of libraries; to contribute to the education and training of librarians for library instruction; to promote instruction in the use of libraries as an essential library service, and to serve as a channel of communication on library instruction between the ALA divisions, ALA and ACRL committees, state clearinghouses, Project LOEX, other organizations concerned with instruction in the use of libraries, and members of the Association.

    Join us at ALA Annual on Saturday, June 24th, at 1pm, for the LIRT President's Program, Universal Design for Learning - Planning for All Learners.

    Presenters:

    • Emily Porter, Director of the Media Center, Curie Metropolitan High School, Chicago, IL
    • Carrie Banks, Inclusive Services, Brooklyn Public Library, Brooklyn, NY
    • Christina Colquhoun, Instructional Design and Online Learning Librarian, Oklahoma State University Libraries

    Universal design for learning is an educational framework that optimizes teaching to accommodate all learners through multiple means of representation, expression, and action & engagement. By creating accessible, inclusive learning experiences, libraries of all types can provide more equitable library services and support for learners through intentional, proactive, and reflective practices.

    In this session, participants will learn how librarians from different libraries are incorporating universal design for learning practices into their work to help reduce barriers and encourage learning.
