POSITION DESCRIPTION
The University of California, Berkeley Library seeks a creative, collaborative, and user-centered librarian to join a team supporting world-class research and teaching in engineering and the physical sciences through active engagement with data and information literacy initiatives, research assistance, collection development, scholarly communications, and outreach to students, faculty, and the broader academic community.
Responsibilities
The STEM Librarian supports students and researchers who are solving complex problems through science, technology, engineering, and data science. As a subject librarian, the successful candidate develops an understanding of research and teaching in their assigned departments, follows trends in those disciplines, and builds relationships with faculty and students through active engagement and outreach – conducting assessments of user needs, providing virtual and in-person research consultations, advocating data and information literacy, offering course-related library instruction and workshops, creating instructional materials in a variety of formats, and promoting library resources and services.
The librarian serves as the selector and liaison for the Departments of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, Industrial Engineering & Operations Research, and Statistics; they may also collaborate on services to other areas such as data science and business as a result of connections between those fields. To build research-level collections, the librarian contributes to collaborative collection development and management – collecting and curating information in a variety of formats including books, journals, and databases to support teaching and research in engineering, computer science, and data science. This requires collaboration with other librarians on campus and within the UC System on interdisciplinary and/or system-wide collection decisions and scholarly communication issues.
Reporting to the Head of the Library's EPS Division, the STEM Librarian works closely with other subject librarians in the sciences to advance our shared goals and priorities. The successful candidate will also work with library-wide functional specialists including those responsible for assessment, research data management, data services, and scholarly communications. Depending on the needs of the library and candidate interests, the librarian may take on leadership within the EPS Division for one of these areas. Professional development and training will be supported to help the successful candidate in growing within this role.

-Master's degree from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent international degree.

Collectively the libraries and their staff - 6 librarians, 10 staff, and over 35 student employees - support the research, teaching, and study needs of students and faculty in the College of Chemistry, the College of Engineering, the College of Letters & Science's Mathematical & Physical Sciences Division, the Geography Department, and an array of Organized Research Units.
