IL Disciplinarity and Values
June 30, 2025
1:00-2:15 pm (Eastern)
To register: https://go.osu.edu/ildisciplinarity
The recognition of IL as a discipline continues to be a topic of discussion in the IL community. As such, a conversation around the values of the IL discipline may be useful to further our collective thinking and more explicitly identify what the IL community views as the values of the discipline. Some key questions include: How do our values shape our discipline? What are the key values identified by other disciplines, such as psychology or geography or other social science/soft disciplines and can they inform how we think about the values of IL? In this conversation, we hope to identify some core values associated with the discipline of IL and how they shape the future trajectory of IL in the 21st century. We hope you will join us for this conversation!
Presenters:
- Clarence Maybee, PhD, Associate Dean of Learning, Professor and W. Wayne Booker Endowed Chair in Information Literacy, Director, Institute for Information Literacy at Purdue Libraries and School of Information Studies, Purdue University cmaybee@purdue.edu
- Karen F. Kaufmann, PhD, Assistant Professor of Instruction, School of Information, University of South Florida; Co-Chair Information Literacy is a Discipline (ILIAD) group with Clarence Maybee kfkaufma@usf.edu
This workshop is being offered as part of the Information Literacy Virtual Workshop Series at Ohio State. Information on additional upcoming workshops in the series is available here: Information Literacy Virtual Workshops. Participants who attend workshops can earn credit toward the Teaching Information Literacy Certificate, being offered for free from The Ohio State Libraries Teaching & Learning Department.
