The mission of the Library Instruction Round Table (LIRT) is to provide a forum for discussion of activities, programs, and problems of instruction in the use of libraries; to contribute to the education and training of librarians for library instruction; to promote instruction in the use of libraries as an essential library service, and to serve as a channel of communication on library instruction between the ALA divisions, ALA and ACRL committees, state clearinghouses, Project LOEX, other organizations concerned with instruction in the use of libraries, and members of the Association.

    This program will introduce several generative AI tools that librarians should know about related to research. After briefly defining generative AI, several AI will be discussed, including Perplexity, Ellicit, and Research Rabbit. Challenges with generative AI will be shared. Finally, the question of how generative AI affects instruction and library services will be addressed and time will be provided for audience questions and sharing of ideas.

    After attending this program, participants will:

    • Distinguish between different research related generative AI.

    • Debate how instruction and library services will be affected by generative AI.

    Presenter Bio:

    Breanne Kirsch is Associate Provost for the Library and Information Technology, University Librarian at Briar Cliff University. In addition to her MLIS, Breanne has a master's in education specializing in educational technology and is a PhD candidate in instructional design and technology.
