The mission of the Library Instruction Round Table (LIRT) is to provide a forum for discussion of activities, programs, and problems of instruction in the use of libraries; to contribute to the education and training of librarians for library instruction; to promote instruction in the use of libraries as an essential library service, and to serve as a channel of communication on library instruction between the ALA divisions, ALA and ACRL committees, state clearinghouses, Project LOEX, other organizations concerned with instruction in the use of libraries, and members of the Association.

    Do you know an academic librarian doing amazing work for their academic community or the profession? Perhaps they are a great mentor or influential scholar? Consider nominating them for ACRL's Academic/Research Librarian of the Year Award!

    The Academic/Research Librarian of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding member of the library profession who has made a significant national or international contribution to academic or research librarianship and library development. Nominations are due Friday, December 5, 2025.

    Award Criteria
    Nominees should demonstrate excellence in at least one of the following areas. Strong nominations often reflect multiple areas of achievement and a sustained record of influence. This rubric will be used to review nominations:

    • Professional Service: Demonstrated record of professional service with increasing leadership roles within ACRL and/or related professional organizations

    • Scholarship: Scholarship and/or theoretical writing that has significantly influenced and advanced the discipline and practice of academic/research librarianship

    • Outreach and Engagement: Advances and innovations in library outreach and engagement with campus and/or community stakeholders, leading to measurable improvements in access, visibility, or collaboration

    • Mentorship: A substantial record of mentoring others at various levels-including but not limited to librarians, students, and early-career professionals

    • Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB): Implementation of initiatives and practices that promote equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging within the profession
