Statement from some LCHS editorial board members in support of our editors and our DEI Statement and Action Plan

  • 1.  Statement from some LCHS editorial board members in support of our editors and our DEI Statement and Action Plan

    Posted Oct 11, 2025 04:00 PM

As members of the LCHS editorial board, we are writing to issue our public support for the journal's DEI Statement and Action Plan and for the leadership provided by its current co-editors, Drs. Nicole Cooke and Carol Leibiger. In fact, this action plan and the contributions of the co-editors to the LIS community were no small part of what drew us to serve on the board.

We want to stress that the spirit of the journal's practice is not one of gatekeeping but is rather about actionable steps towards recognizing community members' contributions and more equitably distributing the advantage that comes with first or co-authorship of a scholarly manuscript. This practice is also about doing our small part to intervene in the exploitative publishing practices that have long plagued academia.

Finally, we join Drs. Cooke and Leibiger in rejecting any suggestion that in-group community members are incapable of producing rigorous, quality research.
