    Jacqueline Jay "Jacie" Gelzer Morris, was a dedicated school librarian, visionary library administrator, and national leader in the school library profession.

    She served as a school librarian in Forest Park, Georgia; Greensboro, North Carolina; and Fort Wayne, Indiana.  She later worked as a Library Consultant for the Wisconsin Department of Education and spent many years with the Indiana Department of Education, where she rose to the position of Director of the Office of Learning Resources.

    Her leadership extended nationally when she was elected President of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) for the 1988–1989 term. During and after her presidency, she became a passionate advocate for the landmark AASL/AECT publication Information Power: Guidelines for School Library Media Programs (1988), helping to redefine the school library as the instructional heart of the school and the librarian as a collaborative teaching partner.

    In honor of the Sesquicentennial (150th Anniversary of ALA) in 2026, the Library History Round Table is hosting Librarians We Have Lost, Sesquicentennial Memories -1976-2026 This collage of tributes seeks to honor librarians who died between 1976-2026.  The tributes are published to ALA Connect, a digital memorial on LHRT News & Notes, and ALA's institutional repository (ALAIR).
