    Donald J. Sager (August 11, 1938 – January 1, 2015)

    Don Sager received ALA's Joseph W. Lippincott Award for distinguished service to the profession of librarianship in 2005, and was acknowledged as having made contributions in multiple ways. He served as Director of several libraries including the Milwaukee Public Library, Chicago Public Library, the Public Library of Columbus and Franklin County (Ohio), and others in New York, Ohio, and Illinois. He was President of PLA 1982-1983 and a Board member of the Urban Libraries Council. He wrote 8 books on librarianship and numerous articles and reviews. He was President of Gossage Sager Associates, an executive recruitment firm and Publisher and Editor of Highsmith Press. Don set an example for ethical and values-based practice in the profession.

    In honor of the Sesquicentennial (150th Anniversary of ALA) in 2026, the Library History Round Table is hosting Librarians We Have Lost, Sesquicentennial Memories -1976-2026 This collage of tributes seeks to honor librarians who died between 1976-2026.  The tributes are published to ALA Connect and a digital memorial on LHRT News & Notes.
