The ALA Yearbook: 1976 Centennial Edition was published to commemorate the ALA's centennial year, coinciding with the ALA Centennial Conference held in Chicago from July 18-24, 1976. It served as both a historical record and a reflection of the state of librarianship in 1976.

    • It is 512 pages. Many articles included photographs, illustrations and statistical data
    • Reports from state library associations were included.
    • "ALA at 100" a dedicated section by Edward G. Holley, provided a historical perspective on the American Library Association's century of development and activities. This section was significant enough to be reprinted separately by ALA.
