IFRT Treasurer’s Report

1/21/19

IFRT is in solid financial shape.  Although revenues for the FY ended 8/31/18 were slightly below the budgeted amount, expenditures were significantly less than budgeted (mainly due to lower conference expenses).  Donations from the past year’s fundraising effort for securing the future of IFRT awards also boosted the bottom line.

Dues from membership have risen moderately, which is a good sign.

How to handle the funding of the three awards (Immroth, Hodges, and Oboler) is a big question to address in the next couple of years.  Does transferring funds to endow an award or awards make sense in the context of big changes underway in ALA?  The financial complexities need to be examined before a decision is made.  Other Round Tables now are asking some of these same questions.

IFRT budgeted for a deficit for the FY ended 8/31/18 but ended up with a surplus.  The healthy Net Assets position of IFRT is a great opportunity to set ambitious goals.  These goals will be guided by the Strategic Planning currently under way.

Respectufully submitted,

Steve Norman (Treasurer)
