The Intellectual Freedom Round Table (IFRT) provides a forum for the discussion of activities, programs, and problems in intellectual freedom of libraries and librarians.
The IFRT Members Community group is the central hub for discussion, library and events. It is visible to all ALA members but only IFRT members can participate in the conversation.
The "Webinar Recordings" folder seemed to fit this content best. But perhaps this new discussion forum is not the place to post this kind of content. I believe this short YouTube video is highly relevant to discussions about Intellectual Freedom because I view search engine algorithmic bias to be a type of thought control. I have never before seen a video like this exposing algorithmic bias in a Library OPAC, and I feel it's important in terms of Intellectual Freedom. If the moderators feel that this is not the type of content that should be posted here, feel free to delete it. Posted April 20, 2020, by "Librarian Dave"There's plenty of info out there about bias and Internet search engines, but not about bias in library search engines (library databases). Here are a few examples of how OneSearch has me 1) thinking about how bias and Whiteness are baked into the cake of library databases and 2) all angry.
