  • 1.  What if the challenge comes from the principal?

    Please excuse the cross-post.

Per the "Formal Reconsideration" webpage, the principal of a school is tasked with appointing the reconsideration committee, but what if the challenge comes from the principal and there is no district level because the school is independent/private? Any insight would be appreciated; feel free to respond here in the forum or to me directly.

I see this is a diocesan school. You could ask the superintendent to appoint the review committee. Ethically the principal should recuse themself.

You might ask for support/guidance from the Catholic Library Association as well. I remember the year CLA was presenting an award to Chris Crutcher was the same week my county public school system was banning Whale Talk. We had a fun chat over that.

My husband is a canon lawyer. I’ll also ask his informal opinion. It’s probably not directly covered, but there may be side issues to be aware of.
