    Colleagues,

This is a quick reminder about two upcoming Intellectual Freedom Round Table (IFRT) events happening this week. We hope you'll join us!

    1. Where Do You Stand? Academic Freedom and Library Worker Protections (Session 2)
    Thursday, May 7, 2026, 7:00 pm ET/4:00 pm PT

In the first session of this series, participants were invited to explore their own institutional context for academic freedom and protections between sessions and return to share what they learned, the questions that emerged, and the strategies they used to seek clarity.

In Session 2, attendees will reconvene to discuss what they were able to determine regarding their academic freedom status following the first session. Participants are encouraged to share who they spoke with, what strategies helped clarify their protections, and where uncertainty or institutional barriers remain. Please note: this session will not be recorded. If you were unable to attend Session 1, you can still join the 2nd Session to share your situation and learn from other attendees.

This series builds on Danya Leebaw's previous work and addresses the increasingly complex and evolving landscape of academic freedom for library workers. With shifting legislation, executive actions, and institutional policies, understanding your protections has never been more important. Attendees are invited to read the article Power and Status (and Lack Thereof) in Academe: Academic Freedom and Academic Librarians on In the Library with the Lead Pipe ahead of these sessions.

Register today to join Session 2 and receive access to the Session 1 recording.

    2. Your Place at the Round Table: IFRT Membership and Volunteer Session
    Tuesday, May 5, 2026 | 8:00 pm ET / 5:00 pm PT

Are you curious about IFRT and how it operates? Interested in getting more involved?

Join us for this informal membership and volunteer session to learn more about IFRT's mission, activities, and opportunities to engage. Whether you're a new, longtime, or prospective member, this is a great chance to explore ways to contribute-whether through committees, award selection, or event planning.

Register and join the conversation-we'd love to see you there!

Please feel free to share these opportunities with colleagues and networks who may be interested.

    My best,
