The Intellectual Freedom Round Table (IFRT) provides a forum for the discussion of activities, programs, and problems in intellectual freedom of libraries and librarians.

The IFRT Members Community group is the central hub for discussion, library and events. It is visible to all ALA members but only IFRT members can participate in the conversation.

    Libraries: Culture, History, and Society (LCHS) is now accepting submissions for volume 8, number 1, to be published in Spring 2024. To be considered for the issue, please send your submission no later than Friday, August 25th, 2023. If you are a prospective author and you would like preliminary information or advice prior to submission, reach out anytime to the lead editor for the issue, Bernadette A. Lear (BAL19@psu.edu).  

    A peer-reviewed publication of the Library History Round Table of the American Library Association and the Penn State University Press, LCHS is available in print and online via the Scholarly Publishing Collective, https://scholarlypublishingcollective.org/psup/libraries. It is indexed in Library Literature, LISTA, America: History and Life, Historical Abstracts, and other scholarly databases. 
    The only journal in the United States devoted to the history of libraries/librarianship, LCHS positions library history as its own field of scholarship, while bringing together scholars from many disciplines to examine the history of libraries as institutions, collections, and services, as well as the experiences of library employees and users. There are no limits of time period or geography, and libraries of every type are included (private, public, corporate, academic, and school libraries, and special collections). In addition to Library Science, we welcome contributors from History, English, Literary Studies, Education, Sociology,  Gender/Women's Studies, Race/Ethnic Studies, Political Science, Architecture, and other disciplines.
